'Remained True To My Conscience': DY Chandrachud To NDTV

Having started practising law nearly 30 years ago and then retiring as the longest-serving Chief Justice of India in over a decade, Justice DY Chandrachud did not only get a ringside view of how courts function but also helped shape jurisprudence in the country with a string of important judgments, including on electoral bonds, the validity of Article 370 and same-sex marriage.  On Wednesday, the former Chief Justice sat down for a wide-ranging interview with NDTV in which he spoke about everything from how he almost became an economist and the paltry fees he got for his first case to the criticisms levelled against judges and the Supreme Court. Justice Chandrachud also addressed a colleague's remarks of him being harsh on a former judge of the Supreme Court and spoke about the need for revisiting and overturning earlier judgments - even those by his father and former Supreme Court Chief Justice YV Chandrachud. Early Days On a question about his experiences and what he learnt f...

'Motivated By My Threats': Trump On Meta's Decision To End Fact-Checks In US

US President-elect Donald Trump said Facebook-parent Meta's abrupt policy shift on content moderation, including ending fact-checking in the United States, was "probably" motivated by his threats against CEO Mark Zuckerberg. Speaking to reporters at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, Trump expressed satisfaction with Meta's move, and when asked if he believed it was a response to his threats against Zuckerberg, responded: "Probably, yeah." Social media giant Meta on Tuesday slashed its content moderation policies, including ending its US fact-checking program on Facebook and Instagram, in a major shift that conforms with the priorities of incoming president Donald Trump. "We're going to get rid of fact-checkers (that) have just been too politically biased and have destroyed more trust than they've created, especially in the US," Meta founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a post. Instead, Meta platforms including Facebook and Instagram,...

99% Indians Won't Show Up To Work If..., Says Bombay Shaving Company CEO

Shantanu Deshpande, the head of Bombay Shaving Company, made an intriguing observation on LinkedIn that most Indian employees are not content with their jobs. He further speculated that many would opt out of work entirely if their financial needs were met. In his post, he said that the sole reason why Indian employees return to offices every day is for financial security and sustenance.  "One of the tragic and late realisations I've had is - most people don't like their jobs. If everyone in India was given sustenance money and financial security their current jobs give them, 99 percent won't show up to work the next day," Mr Deshpande wrote. "From blue collar workforce to govt employees to gig workers to factories to insurance salesmen to banks to small business owners to even 'fun and employee-friendly startups' like BSC (my HR is gonna kill me) - the story is the same. 19-20 ka farak (There's hardly a difference)." Deshpande likened th...

"You Voted For Me, But You Don't Own Me": Ajit Pawar At Public Event

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar lost his cool after a large number of people gave him memorandums with various demands and told them they didn't "own" him just because they voted for him. Addressing a public meeting in Baramati on Sunday, he also asked the people present if they had made him their servant. "You have voted for me, but that doesn't mean you own me," the irate NCP leader said. Meanwhile, his cabinet colleague and Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule emphasised that people are of utmost importance since it is they who bring leaders to power. This is why the government will fulfil all promises, Mr Bawankule asserted on Monday.  (Except for the headline, this story has not been edited by NDTV staff and is published from a syndicated feed.) from NDTV News- Special https://ift.tt/HhSGQBk

"Don't Need Players Who...": Gavaskar's Stern 'Star Culture' Advice To BCCI

Legendary India batter Sunil Gavaskar urged the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to end the 'star culture' present in the Indian cricket team following the series loss against Australia. India's World Test Championship (WTC) Final dreams were completely dashed after they slumped to a heavy loss against Australia in the Sydney Test on Sunday. Gavaskar said on Star Sports that the cricketers need to make themselves available for selection at all times unless there is a medical emergency and even advised the selectors to consider the players who are completely committed to the side. “I think the next 8–10 days are crucial for Indian cricket to take a good, honest look at itself. Most importantly, the star culture has to end. Total commitment to Indian cricket is non-negotiable. Players must make themselves available every single time unless there's a genuine medical emergency. If someone isn't fully committed, they shouldn't be considered for selectio...

After Comment On Priyanka Gandhi, BJP Leader's Jibe At Atishi Sparks Row

BJP leader Ramesh Bidhuri has raised another controversy with his comments, this time over the name of Delhi Chief Minister Atishi. Mr Bidhuri is contesting the Delhi assembly election from Kalkaji constituency, which is at present represented by Atishi from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). At a rally in Delhi's Rohini on Sunday, Mr Bidhuri raised the matter of Atishi's surname change - a matter that was also controversial in the past, especially during the campaign for the 2019 Lok Sabha election when Atishi contested from East Delhi Lok Sabha constituency. Atishi lost the 2019 Lok Sabha election to the BJP's Gautam Gambhir by a margin of over 4.7 lakh votes. Mr Bidhuri had just expressed regret over another "sexist" comment on Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, when the Atishi row hit him this evening. In an undated video, the BJP leader was heard saying the party would make all the roads in south Delhi's Kalkaji like the "cheeks of Priyanka Gandhi...

Meet The Gujarati Aunties Revolutionising Indian Food Delivery In New York

Home-cooked food is often considered a luxury for people working away from their hometowns. For many Indians working abroad, especially in countries like the United States, it can feel like a distant dream. However, a group of enterprising Gujarati women in New York has found a way to fulfil this craving. They've created a system that delivers home-cooked, desi-style meals to Indian professionals in the city. This initiative mirrors Mumbai's famous dabbawalas, but with a twist-operating legally in New York requires navigating a complex web of food licenses. Despite these challenges, this niche service has tapped into a growing demand, offering a homely experience with the convenience of delivery and proving that there's significant potential in catering to specific groups of people. One social media creator, Ishan Sharma (@ishansharma7390), who specialises in content around YouTube, AI, business, and freelancing, recently drew attention to this phenomenon in a reel on Inst...

When asked about Pakistan's relations with India, he stressed the importance of mutual effort, and said, "Afghanistan is our brother. We want strong ties. With India, it takes two to tango. US Army Veteran Behind New Orleans Attack "100% Inspired By ISIS": FBI

A US army veteran motivated by loyalty to the jihadist group Islamic State likely acted alone when he killed and injured dozens in a truck attack against a New Orleans crowd of New Year revelers, the FBI said Thursday. Despite initial concerns that Shamsud-Din Jabbar had accomplices still on the run, preliminary investigations show he likely was alone, FBI deputy assistant director Christopher Raia said. "We do not assess at this point that anyone else was involved," Raia said. However, new evidence emerged detailing the extent of the US citizen's loyalty to Islamic State and his plans to cause mayhem in the attack, which killed 14 and injured more than 30 in the French Quarter district, ending only after he was shot by police. "He was 100 percent inspired by ISIS," Raia said, using an alternative name for the international jihadist group. Just before the attack, in which 42-year-old Jabbar slammed a rented Ford F-150 pickup into the crowd, he "posted ...

UK Man Falls 600-Ft To His Death From Helvellyn Mountain

A dog walker in the UK tragically fell 600 feet to his death from the peak of Helvellyn, one of the Lake District's tallest mountains, according to a report in The Telegraph . The unnamed man was reported missing by his wife after he went on a walk with his black labrador. As per the police, the wife had been tracking her husband's progress on the phone but noticed he had not moved for a few hours, which prompted her to inform the authorities. The search operation involved seven mountain teams, two coastguard and rescue helicopters probing the numerous routes leading to Helvellyn's summit, where his phone last signalled. However, the atrocious weather conditions meant that a total of 68 rescue personnel from various teams including Patterdale, Keswick, Langdale Ambleside, Cockermouth, Penrith, and Kirkby Stephen had to spend two days to complete the operation. As per Cumbria Police, the man had left a holiday home in Grasmere and gone out on his bicycle with his dog. On t...

Retirement Hint? Australia Great Highlights Rohit Sharma's "Unusual" Act

The talks around India captain Rohit Sharma 's potential retirement from Test cricket have intensified with the team's bitter defeat to Australia in the 4th Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Monday. India's defeat in the match makes World Test Championship (WTC) qualification quite difficult while Rohit's form with the bat does make it difficult for the management to fit him in the XI. Suggestions are that the Sydney Test is likely to be Rohit's last in the longest format, and Australia great Justin Langer also spotted an 'unusually emotional' India skipper on Day 5 at MCG, hinting that the end is near for him. Langer said that Rohit was unusually emotional on the field at MCG on Day 5 of the 4th Test, which could be seen as a hint behind his potential exit from the format. The former Australia batter also feels Rohit is quite tired, with the stress of the game getting to his nerves. "Rohit Sharma looks very tired to me. I saw him quite emotion...

West Virginia awards $5 million grant to Catholic college for expansion and think tank

The West Virginia Water Development Authority approved a $5 million grant to the College of St. Joseph the Worker, an Ohio-based Catholic college, to expand into the state. The grant will fund vocational training, a satellite campus, and a conservative think tank. While the project is set to benefit the region's workforce, it has raised concerns due to the lack of a required recommendation from state officials and the college’s focus on political advocacy, reports the Herald Star. from Latest Education news - Board Exam Results, Admit Cards, Exam Paper Analysis and Question Papers | Times of India https://ift.tt/znuSP8y
